1754 AD to 1798 AD

1754 to 1798 AD: History Timeline 





1755 AD: Nancy Ward and her husband fought in the Taliwa war against the Creek. Her husband was killed and she fought on. The Cherokee won. Nancy Ward was awarded the position of Warrior Woman which gave her some influence in tribal affairs.

~ Earthquake: Centered near Lisbon, Portugal. Perhaps the strongest quake in history. Seismic sea waves rocked Loch Lomond, Scotland. Aftershocks continued for several months. The quake and aftershocks resulted in about 60,000 deaths. This resulted in a scientific study of  earthquakes in recent history. How were the Portuguese people affected?

~ Russia: University of Moscow founded as the first Russian university.


1756 AD to 1791 AD: Lifespan of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.


1759 AD: British capture Quebec, Canada.


1760 AD, USA: Mojaves, Piutes, and Chemehuevi lived in the eastern M ojave of the US Southwest.

~ USA: Mason Dixson Line separates the "free" states from the "slave" states.


1768 AD, North America: Don Jose Galvez, Visitador General, of New Spain, completed his plan to Settle Alta California and prevent the Russians from coming further south than Fort Rossi.

~ Gaspar de Portola is governor of California.

~ Franciscans enter Pimeria Alta of North American Southwest.

~ James Cook ''discovered'' Australia.


1769 AD, North America: San Diego, California founded.

~ Gaspar de Portola began the occupation of Alta California at San Diego. Subsequently he became the first governor of California.

~ A Discovery of San Francisco Bay in California.


1770 AD to 1822 AD, Colombia: Zea, Francisco Antonio was born in Medellin, Antioquia and educated at the seminary of Popayan. At age 15 he had to his credit 3 courses in philosophy, 3 in theology, and was an accomplished naturalist.

~ North America: Monterey, California founded.

~ North America: Pedro Fages was governor of California.

~ North America: Boston Massacre(?)


1772 AD, North America: Coahuila population of Anza - Borrego area were moved to the Mission of Santa Ysabel.(?)


1773 AD to 1775 AD. Russia: Cossack Pugachev leads peasant uprising, but is suppressed.(?) Peasant uprising in Russia.

~ Fernando Rivera y Moncada was governor of California.


1774 AD, California: Spanish made contact with the Cahuilla people.

~ California: Don Juan Bautista led the first large European party through the Imperial Valley.

~ Joseph Priestley discovered Oxygen. 

~ F. A. Mesner (1733 - 1815) used hypnosis for health purposes.

~ to 1775 AD: Father Garces visited Moki and barely escapes being murdered.

~ to 1821 AD, USA: Life of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Born in New York City.


1775 AD: American War of Independence foments Irish unrest.

~ Ireland: Henry Grattan became leader of the "Patriot Party."

~ American war of Independence foments Irish unrest.

~ USA: Garces crosses the Mojave desert.

~ Second expedition of Juan Bautista de Anza.

~ USA Southwest: Beginning of loss (change) of variety of native grasses.

~ to 1783 AD, USA: American war of independence.

~ Earthquake felt from Scotland to Asia Minor. It brought half of Lisbon down.

~ California: Felipe de Neve is governor.

~ New England: Battles of Lexington and Concord.

~ California: (?) Ayala's exploration of  San Francisco Bay.

1775 AD to 1783 AD: American Revolutionary war. Locations were Eastern North America, Gibraltar, India, Caribbean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. On the US side were Canadian Auxiliaries, Spain, Iroquois including Oneida and Tuscarora, Watauga association, Catawba, Lenape, Choctaw, Dutch Republic and Mysore. With England were Loyalists, German Auxiliaries(mercenaries), Iroquois including Mohawk, Cayuga, and Seneca, and Cherokee. Results for US and Allies, victory with the Treaty of Paris in 1783 and england recognizing the independence of the USA.

~ The US revolutionary battle pf Long Island on the 27th of August.   

~ to 1795 AD: The Cherokee - American wars as part of the american Indian wars. The location of these Cherokee wars was the Old Southwest. It was the US vs the Cherokee and the US won.

~ Abduction of Daniel Boone's daughter by the Cherokee.   



1776 AD: American Revolutionary War of separation from England. Revolutionary war began in the North American Atlantic coast colonies of england.

~ Chickamauga Wars in America continue.

~ Second Cherokee War with America

~ Pennamite - Yankee War in America. Part of a War between people of  Connecticut and people of Pennsylvania over The Wyoming Valley along the north branch of the Susquehanna River. Active from 1769 to '70; 1774; and again in 1784. So, really may not belong here.

~ Sixty years of war in Europe was followed by the Industrial Revolution.

~ Its interesting to note by those interested in the Earthworks Tradition of North America that the "mounds" of that tradition looked like not much more than piles of dirt.

~ Escalante explored in what is now the state of Nevada.

~ California: Father Garces baptized a Yokut Indian near California Hot Springs. The area then may have been referred to as Venado.

~ Adam Smith's work An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations was published.

~ US: Abduction of Daniel Boone's daughter.

~ to 1795 AD: Cherokee-American wars as part of the US wars on the Indians in the old Southwest. US beat the Cherokee.

 

 

1777 AD: American Revolutionary war continues.

~ Chickamauga wars in America continue. 

~ Second Cherokee war in America.

~ Pennamint - Yankee war in America continues.

 

 

1778 AD: American Revolutionary War continues

~ Battle of Wyoming in Pennsylvania, British and Iroquois won.

~ to 1865 AD: Was the Life span of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat who was born in France the daughter of a cooper and had a good education from her older brother. She founded the Society of the Sacred Heart and taught women.

 

1780 AD: US: American Revolutionary War, Chickamauga wars, Pennamint-Yankee war.

~ to 1783 AD, South America: Peruvian Indians under Inca, Tupac Amara revolted against Spain.



1781 AD: US: American Revolutionary war, Chickamauga wars, Pennamint-Yankee war.

~ USA: John Quincy Adams was 14 years old when he went to Russia as secretary to Francis Dana, the minister to Russia.

~ July 17th, USA: In what is about what became the US state of Arizona.The "final" revolt of the Yuma Indians was fought and in which father Garces and others were slain.


1782 AD: Grattan's parliament persuades British to declare Irish independence, but in name only.

~ Legislative Independence won from Britain by Irish Parliament.

~ American Revolutionary war, Chickamauga wars,  Pennamint-Yankee war.

~ USA: In California, Mission San Buenaventura was founded on Easter Day in ceremonies conducted by Father Serra and his assistant Father Pedro Cambon.


1783 AD: American Revolutionary war. Chickamauga wars, Pennamint-Yankee war.

~ June 8th, Iceland: The great Icelandic lava flow occurred. A great haze of sulfur clioride and other volcanic gases caused the Haze Famine. The winter of 1983 and   


1784 AD: was especially severe in Europe because of the haze.

~ USA: Following the Treaty of Paris, the US takes ownership of the Wisconsin territory.

~ USA: The Treaty of Paris used to award land  which includes the future Michigan territory to the United States.




1784 AD: Pennamint - Yankee War ends.

~ Chickamauga Wars, Oconee War.

~ First permanent Russian settlement in Alaska.


1785 AD: US: Chickamauga Wars, Northwest Indian war,


1786 AD: US: Chickamauga Wars, Northwest Indian war.


~ to 1787 AD, US: Shays' Rebellion took place in Massachusetts between US and (moonshiners?) Anti-government protesters. The U S won. Problems with the Articles of Confederation spur the US Constitutional Convention.



1787 AD to 1794 AD: US: Chickamauga Wars, Northwest Indian war.

1787 AD, US, September 17th, a Monday,: All 12 state delegations approve the Constitution of what was to become the U.S.A. Of the 42 delegates  present, 39 signed, and the convention was formally adjourned. The representatives from 13 states resolved on convention to lay the Constitution before The U.S. Congress.

 

1789 AD, US on June 8th: James Madison introduced the proposed Bill of Rights in the House of Representatives.

~ to 1803 AD: Warren Well, near Yucca Valley, California, was out of commission about a month after a series of severe earthquakes.
~ George Washington became the first president of the U.S.A.


1790 AD to 1820 AD: Mauder Minimum, a time of low sunspot count. A solar minimum coinciding with lower than average global temperature and perhaps unusually high volcanic activity.

~ to 1820 AD: Dalton Minimum, solar minimum, time of low sunspot count coinciding with low average global temperature and increased volcanic activity.

 1791 AD: Events leading up to the Irish Revolution of 1798.

~ to 1794 AD, USA: Whiskey Rebellion in Western Pennsylvania. George Washington and troops march to suppress the rebellion in western Pennsylvania. US forces put down frontier tax protestors and armed resistance eliminated. Minor tax evasion continued.

~ on May 5th: The Philadelphia carpenters strike for a ten hour day and overtime pay.

~ US: The Bill of Rights was enacted.

~ on December 15th: Citizens of Virginia ratified our Bill of Rights and ten ten of the twelve proposed amendments became part of the US constitution.



1792 AD: Citizens of France declared themselves a Republic.

~ to 1795 AD: France: National convention governs the country which declares itself a republic on September 21st of 1792.




 1793 AD: USA: Yellow fever hit Philadelphia with an impact like the Great Plagues of London.

1795 AD: Northwest Indian war.

 

1795 AD: Foundation of the Orange Order in Ireland.

~ USA: In California, Rancho Simi was given by Governor Borica to the three Pico brothers, Patricio, Javier, and Miguel.


1796 AD: US: No major war.

 

1797 AD: US: No major war


 

1798 AD: Wolf Tone"s uprising in Ireland. 

~ to 1800 U.S. Quasi-war with France was part of the French Revolutionary Wars in Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, and the Mediterranean. US and Great Britain fought France and Guadeloupe. Results included a peaceful cessation of the Franco - American alliance, end of French privateer attacks on American shipping, American neutrality and renunciation of claims by France.
